See, I Make All Things New / Created for Love

Middle School Curriculum

Parishes - Schools - Parents - Students

“In His image He created him; male and female He created them.” Through these words, we understand that God created each person with a unique and unrepeatable dignity that is being called into question more and more in today’s society. In response to growing pressures and confusion, Cardinal Seán O’Malley has requested the implementation of a curriculum to assist parents in sharing the moral teachings of the Catholic Church with their children. The lessons are intended to help teenagers begin to comprehend the great love that God has for each of us and the plan He has for our lives, which is the only road to lasting, authentic happiness.

The See, I Make All Things New and Created for Love curricula are geared towards helping middle school students begin to understand that God has created each person in His own image to be a sign of His love, which ordains them with a particular dignity and demands that they must be treated with love and respect. Our goal is to instill hope in the youth by helping them to better know God and His great love for them and by encouraging them to live their lives in response to this love.

The See, I Make All Things New and Created for Love curricula begin with the parents because the Catholic Church recognizes that parents are the primary educators of their children in matters of faith and morals. The Parent Information Night is held prior to the classroom portion of the curriculum to explain the curriculum to parents of Children in grades 4-7, so that they can begin talking with their children about some very important issues in life: love, relationships, and sexuality. Parents are loaned a DVD called “Know Yourself” and given a booklet called “God’s Great Plan” to assist them in initiating these discussions with their children. These materials have been provided for each school and parish within the Archdiocese of Boston. These meetings are geared towards raising parents’ awareness to the issues in the culture that surround their children, as well as God’s loving plan for life and sexuality.

The student curriculum is geared towards students in the 7th grade, but can also be taught to 8th grade students as well. Training sessions are held for school and parish staff who wish to teach the curriculum. Additionally, Curriculum Specialists have been trained and can be hired by the schools and parishes to teach the curriculum if the school or parish prefers. The student curriculum ends with a Commitment Ceremony, during which students are invited to make a commitment to themselves and to God that they will strive to live according to His will and to maintain purity of heart.
